Girl’s basketball Class 6A Area 6 starts this week in Opelika as Benjamin Russell and Russell County start the battle on Tuesday, 2/4/20, at 5 PM and winner of this game takes on Opelika Bulldawgs on Thursday night, 2/4/20, at Opelika High School at 5 PM
The Class 6A Area 6 boy’s basketball will be played in Russell County High as Opelika lost the coin toss as they were tied for the area. Opelika will take on Benjamin Russell on Wednesday,2/5/20, at 5 PM CST and the winner will take on Russell County on Friday,2/7/20.
Two great events happen this week, James Dawson is headed for a school-record of wins in wrestling as he got his 199th win. Opelika’s basketball Senior, Claire Worth, hit her 1000 point mark against Auburn Thursday night at the girls beat Auburn High.

On Thursday night the Opelika VG basketball team took on Beauregard and carried the game and took home a win with the score of Opelika 63 to Beauregard’s 15.
In VB Basketball, Opelika and Beauregard went head to head throughout the game. With 3.6 seconds on the clock, Beauregard throws the ball down court to Porterfield, where he hit a 3 pointer at the clock. That gives Coach Johnson his first win as a Beauregard coach by the score of Beauregard 79 Opelika 76. What a game on both sides.
On Friday night at Bulldog Stadium, it was a wet & cold place as Opelika & St Paul took the field in the second round of the AHSAA playoffs. And only one of the teams will advance to round 3 as they march to the Super 7. Opelika was behind in the first half as St Paul lined up for a field goal with only seconds on the clock as Jalen Stinson came from the left side of the line and caused a blocked kick and run over and picked up the ball and raced 70 yards to the other end zone for an Opelika TD the clock on “0” and 1st half over.
Eric Watts had a 1 yard run in the 3rd and another 1 yard run in the 4th quarter to nail the door closed for St Paul, who only in the 1st Qt and an FG in the 3rd.
Opelika will be traveling next week to take on Hueytown in round 3 of AHSAA playoffs.
This coming week, the Opelika Wreasting team will take to the mat for the first time this season on Tuesday, November 19th at The Arena at Opelika High School. The action starts at 5:30 pm with match up with rounds with Russell County and LaGrange.

Just a few more weeks and most schools will be out for the summer. As the school year comes to the end, Schoolships and end of year events begin. Today, OHS Senior Quala Walton signed a basketball scholarship to Chattanooga State Community College. Congratulations Quala!
Congratulations to Coach Butler and the Girls Soccer Team. They are headed into the third round of playoffs after defeating Wetumpka 7-0 last Friday Night and Defeating Benjamin Russell 2-1. They will play later this week. Good Luck!!
This afternoon was the first day of Spring football practice. The spring game will be Friday, May 17 at 6:30. Opelika will be playing Valley.
Opelika High School Graduation is Friday, May 24th at 7 pm.
